Studied for 3 1/2 weeks and "passed on my first try!"

From Mat Gordon, Ann Arbor, MI

I found TAPRE Course to be an efficient and effective method to study for the patent bar.  I essentially followed the study schedule provided in the materials: meaning I studied between 6-8 hours a day for about 3 1/2 weeks over my law school Christmas break.  I passed on my first try!

I liked that the course focused on the most tested parts of the exam so I didn't waste a lot of time memorizing minutiae that I might not be tested on.  I also found the drills to familiarize myself with the table of contents of the most important chapters very helpful; when I was faced with a question I needed to look up, I could often go directly to the section containing the answer.  I finished one of my three hour sections with twenty minutes to spare!

For those who haven't taken a patent course in law school, TAPRE's prosecution overview is a really helpful way to wrap your head around the patent prosecution process before you dive into the MPEP.  I have taken patent law and still found TAPRE's overview helpful.  By comparison, before I went to law school I tried to study for the patent bar using an online course with no overview and found the MPEP material much too technical without any framework.  Given that I was trying to write my dissertation at the same time, I really only lasted a week.  That course was a huge waste of money.

Taking the practice exams helped me gauge whether I knew the material well enough as well as teaching me the right pacing for each question.  I was pleased to see my scores on the practice exams steadily increase through the course of TAPRE.

Finally, studying for the patent bar really does require you to cram large amounts of information into your brain.  I found TAPRE's flashcards very helpful in this regard - and that's saying something because I really hate to memorize.

In sum, I would recommend TAPRE to anyone who is looking for a great deal on a patent bar study course.

"My favorite element... is the set of flash cards"

From Dan Vacar, San Diego, CA

I took the TAPRE Course in preparation for the Patent Bar. The TAPRE Course focuses on the “Most wanted”, or, the course reviews only the topics in the MPEP that are being tested during the USPTO Registration Examination. Additionally, the TAPRE Course includes an “MPEP abridged” section, such that the reader can absorb in a few dozen pages, the subject matter covered in MPEP over thousands of pages. My favorite element of the TAPRE Course is the set of flash cards that cover the tested subject matter of the MPEP. One can use the TAPRE flash cards before, during or at the end of the preparation process. As I prepared for the Patent Bar, there was no better indicator of preparation readiness then my ability to recognize the MPEP subject matter covered by the set of TAPRE flash cards. When I could breeze through the TAPRE flash cards, I knew I was ready to pass the Patent Bar. And I did.
